 1. The RCSS/SSA has been shutting down the self-reliance schools opened by Ta’ang communities, forcibly recruiting soldiers from Ta’ang communities, arbitrarily arresting Ta’ang villagers, and threatening Ta’ang villagers in Southern Shan state several times.  Ta’ang Organizations are very concerned about these violations.

Joint Statement on Targeting of Ta’ang Civilian Populations and Human Rights Violations by the Myanmar Tatmadaw

We strongly condemn and protest the targeting of Ta’ang civilian populations by the Myanmar Tatmadaw in its attacks, since February 2016, in the Ta’ang Region of Northern Shan State. The Myanmar Tatmadaw has sent in massive military forces, and this has resulted in gross human rights violations.

Since last week, the military regime has launched fresh token poppy eradication campaigns in Namkham and Mantong townships of Northern Shan State, once again leaving most opium farms intact in exchange for massive bribes.
